RC-1 channel provides sound dampening through extending the distance between the surface of the structural walls and the drywall. This distance allows sound waves to disperse and dissipate.
The construction of QuietRock is a little bit different than traditional drywall, as they rely on a total of three layers. There are two layers of gypsum drywall that are usually around 1/4 inch thick. Sandwiched in between is a viscoelastic sound-absorbing polymer. What that means is that the middle layer acts a lot like a rubber compound, which helps kill any sound waves and energy coming from sound better than other products.
Sound Break XP is soundboard which will withstand the issues of moisture and mold. It is great for use in high humidity areas where you don't want noise permeating the walls.
We now use Tytan Drywall Foam Adhesive on all drywall we hang. This adhesive holds a stronger bond than that of water-based glues and provides sound dampening as well as added protection against nail pops.
This acoustical tile from USG provides significant sound dampening. Applications we have used this product have been in schools, hospitals, basements, and office settings.
Green Glue is specifically designed to be used between two layers of sheetrock, and will act as a flexible sound absorbing layer in the middle.
